If you smoke or have smoked in the past, you are more likely to suffer from lung and throat diseases.
It could be something like chronic bronchitis or acid reflux. It may well not be cancer but the advice is to seek medical advice.
Your GP will examine your throat, listen to your lungs, possibly determine their function with a spirometry test, and maybe arrange X-rays.
Once the reason for the coughing is identified, the doctor will work with you to determine a treatment plan.
